The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is considered one of the most glamorous and famous bombers of World War II. Hardly ready for combat, it benefited from the RAF's bitter experience with the early models. It was used in almost every theater in the war, but the majority were used by the US Eighth Air Force based in the UK, for daylight precision strategic bombing against Germany. The B-17 dropped more bombs than any other U.S. aircraft in World War II and it inspired admiration from those who entrusted their lives to this admirable machine. Read More ... |
