| The Boeing P-26 Peashooter was the first all metal, pursuit monoplane, for the USAAC. However, it was conservative in design, with fixed gear and external wing bracing—although the P-26 would prove to be a gallant fighter against Japanese aircraft, in the Philippines, at the beginning of World War II—it was for the most part, an interim aircraft.
