Bristol Type 167 Brabazon | Photo Gallery | ||
---|---|---|---|
The Bristol Type 167 Brabazon was a piston-engine propeller-driven airliner designed to fly transatlantic routes between the UK and the United States. It was powered by eight Bristol Centaurus radial engines which drove a total of eight paired, contra-rotating propellers. Due to the high cost per seat mile compared to the alternatives, the Brabazon was unable to attract any firm orders and was cancelled, including the incomplete, turboprop-powered Brabazon I Mk.II. The first flight was 4 September 1949 and retired in 1953. Only 1 aircraft was built. | |||
