Aircraft successfully operated in both Vertoplane and conventional modes and several in-flight conversions made, first on 25 Jul 37. Public demonstration 30 Jul 37 at Boulevard Airport in Philadelphia gained nationwide acceptance for Herrick, but no funds found for further development. Although known as " dean of convertible aircraft designers," ideas were supplanted after war by attempts of others to combine best features of helicopters and conventional aircraft. Convertaplane would live on but not as an autogiro.
