Nieuport 28 - early in restoration (scan - donated)

This is being restored by an all-volunteer staff, a new trend at the Garber facility. They are using a pool of retirees with the proper skills to carry on restoration work that they otherwise couldn't do because of budget constraints.

The Nieuport 11, designed 1914 by Gustave Delage to take part in Gordon Bennett Cup Races, was first of a series of notable aircraft to serve Allies. Nieuport 10 and 12 2-seater designs followed and led to more powerful single-seater Nieuport 16. Next, Nieuport 17 emerged and became one of outstanding combat aircraft of its time, and one of most useful Allied fighters before arrival of Spad S.VII. The Nieuport 17 became a favorite aircraft of aces of the period.
