The SM.79 was most important Italian bomber of World War II which established a reputation that contrasted with most Italian weapons of the day. It was a tough three-engine aircraft that was originally designed as a fast passenger aircraft. It saw service in the Spanish Civil War and served on all fronts in World War II, where Italy was involved. It was an outstanding airplane and was the best known of all Italian aircraft in World War II.
